While static analysers have given great benefit in processing and automatically checking large swathes of code, they still suffer from a high false-positive rate.
In this talk, Niroshan will discuss an approach based on the "synthesis" of executions leading to specific software issues (i.e., the automatic construction of a dynamic test to exploit a potential vulnerability), a technique sitting at the intersection between static analysis and fuzz testing. By leveraging upon dynamic (unit) testing, it is possible to validate issues produced from a static analyzer. This enables confirmation of errors, reducing the workload of the engineer, providing focus on the subset of errors which are demonstrably exploitable.
