It seems that automakers are moving full steam ahead with the introduction of ever-increasing features to support automated driving. In May, Mercedes introduced its S class series with 6 eyes (cameras) and 6 ears (sensors) which allow the car to drive itself at speeds up to 60 kph. However, self-driving cars won’t see anything but the test track until they are “100 percent safe 100 percent of the time,” says Bosch executive Wolf-Henning Scheider. Areas for improvement include:

Please join me on December 5, 2013, where I will be presenting the “Secrets to Designing Testable Software”. This monthly on-line customer training* is based on customer feedback I've been collecting over the past few months on this important subject. The other day, I helped a customer debug an interesting problem with one of his test cases. No matter what he did to set up input values, the code stubbornly refused to traverse one of the error checking cases in his function. The example code below is similar to what we were trying to test:#define PERIPHERAL_A (0x8345678)
#define SENSOR_DATA (0x456789AB) void sysOutput(const char *line);
void processSensorData(long data); /* Returns next value held in the given I/O stream
* params: key: I/O stream id; value: [output] returns next I/O value
* return: length of value, in bytes; -1 on failure */

Guten Tag from Southern Germany,
This week I am making customer visits within Germany, and have been happy to see the exceptional growth of our brand. I have visited customers in the Automotive, Avionics, Industrial Automation, and Medical Markets. What is most satisfying to me as the manager of the engineering group at Vector, is to see that our Marketing Message and Product Features so perfectly match the experiences of our customers.
Since the very beginning, we have built our family of products with three goals:
- Make Structural Testing Efficient
- Make it easy to re-use tests as Regression Tests
- Make our tools easy to use, to increase adoption
So here is a story from an Industrial Automation customer, which shows that... Continue reading »

Two weeks ago I attended the Embedded Systems Conference in Sao Paulo Brazil, as a guest of our partner, Anacom. This was my first time to South America and even though I was a bit outside the city and didn’t get to see too much of the country, I found the people and the country to be beautiful. I look forward to going back one day!
Brazil’s economic growth started with manufacturing, as is common. It then expanded into systems integration and therefore the show was very hardware focused. Most of the major players were there including Texas Instruments, IAR, ARM and ST Micro.
Now an increasing number of companies are working on R&D projects that involve software. Therefore VectorCAST, with our partner Anacom, is well positioned to help those companies achieve their... Continue reading »
